Classifying Assets and Liabilities
Assets sort by liquidity: cash, investments and personal-use assets. Liabilities sort by cost and collateral: high-interest cards versus low-rate mortgages. The point is resilience and whether money works for you.
Assets
Liquid: cash and money-market funds.
Investments: stocks, bonds and retirement accounts.
Personal use: home and car, usually no cash flow.
Liabilities
Pay high-interest revolving debt first.
Low-rate long-term debt can stay, but keep an emergency fund.
FAQ
Is a car an asset?
Yes, but it depreciates fast; do not use the new-car price.
Should I pay off all debt early?
Not necessarily; compare rates and returns, prioritizing high interest.
